The Alabama State University Hornets women’s volleyball team lost all three sets against the Troy University Trojans. Throughout the match, the Hornets struggled defensively to stop the Trojan’s offense.
To open up the match, the first point of the game went to the Trojans as a hit went out of bounds from a Hornet player. Quickly after the first point, the Trojans received another point making the set score 2-0 early into the match.
Freshman #8 Taylor Williams, got the Hornets their first point of the match. After 1:15 into the game, the Hornets were down 4-3 during the first set. Senior libero #23 Temperance Chatman, had a nice dig to put the Hornets up 5-4 in the first set. Shorty after middle hitter #16 Essence Jones, had a kill to put the set at 6-4.
Despite the Hornets efforts, they continued to struggle to slow down the Trojans offense. When the first timeout of the game was called, the Hornets were down 13-8.
Soon after the timeout, the first set came to an end and the Trojans won 13-25.
The second set began and the Trojans got things started, by getting a point on a hit out of bounds from the Hornets offense. The Trojans continued to get points, making the score 5-1 quickly into the second set.
Although the Hornets had a couple of good plays from graduate student Zanobia Willis, junior Laila Wooldridge, and junior Jyriah Morgan, the Trojans won the second set 25-19.
Just like the previous sets, the Trojans got on the board early into the third and final set of the game. The Trojans opened the third set with a point making the set score 1-0.
The Hornets sophomore Essence Jones, had a big block to make the set score 1-3 with the Trojans still leading.
At the halfway mark, the Trojans were winning 15-4 in the final set.
The Hornets were unable to make the adjustments to slow down the Trojans and went on to lose the set 25-10. After losing all three sets against the Trojans, the Hornets were now 3-7 for the season.
The Hornets next match is against the Florida Gator on September 12, 2024.
