The people, place, and numbers may change but the hurt remains the same. The number of people killed by gun violence increases every day, you can get shot at a club, school, concert, church, and even a yoga studio just because one person decides your life is meaningless. Why does this keep happening and when will it stop?

In the year 2012 twenty children were shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in that single day Adam Lanza killed a total of 28 people. 28 souls were removed from this earth by the hands of one single man with a gun. Yet again On October 2, 2017, 59 people were killed by the hands of one single man.

October 24, 2018, marked the 294th mass shooting in America. 11 people were murdered at a Jewish Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“My heart goes out to those people and their families because it is nothing like losing a loved one but the sad reality is that the dangers we face in today’s world are getting extremely out of hand…” said Mariah McClary a freshman, majoring in….

Every day we continue to see more and more people lose their lives due to gun violence. The mass shooting in Pittsburgh was a hate crime and to say it was anything less than that would be outrageous.

As the numbers begin to climb, the reaction stays the same as well as the number one question: when will it stop? When will the NRA make changes, when will the voices of the people be heard? These questions ponder the minds of everyone across the county especially those who have lost a loved one to gun violence.

Many of the ASU family wonder the same, these shootings are becoming regular in a society where we should live peacefully and without worry of the future. “I feel like the situation is very devastating and my heart goes out to all the families. We need to do something about the NRA in this country” explains Dy’Oni Charlton a Freshman majoring in Management here at Alabama State.

The lack of sympathy the NRA has for the citizens of America is taking a very detrimental toll on society. Their greed overrules the simple rights Americans deserve, and that is costing more lives to be lost.

“The NRA (National Rifle Association) is to involved in political parties and because they are so involved gun laws and issues will never be resolved. Politicians should not take any money from the NRA because when they do that they are practically in the NRA’s back pocket.” Explains Dy’Oni. The death toll in America will continue to rise until the Government decides to listen to the cries of society. The mass shooting in Pittsburgh is the 294th to occur this year, hopefully, the voices of the people ring loud enough to persuade the Government to change but until that day society will only continue to wonder WHO’S NEXT?
