Standards, Ethics and Quality Control Division

The purpose of the Standards, Ethics and Quality Control Division is to ensure that The Hornet Tribune is always regarded as a quality publication by its readership. Subsequently, certain parts of the standards, ethics and quality control process such as checking for grammar, punctuation, accuracy, fairness, style, legal and ethical issues must be given special attention by the staff.

Hello, my name is Katelyn Brown, a freshman at Alabama State University majoring in rehabilitation studies. Before arriving at the university, I attended Westover High School which is located in Albany, Georgia.

As the daughter of Lakisha Taylor, I was attracted to Alabama State University because of their occupational therapy program. I have always wanted to attend this university, and once I started my senior year, I realized this university was the best fit for me. I hope to one day become certified in occupational therapy to become an occupational therapist and use my skills to work in pediatric acute care.

While enrolled in Westover High School, I was involved in the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Yearbook Staff, Academic Decathlon, and the Royal Dolls dance team. I was also awarded editor of the yearbook staff and captain of the Royal Dolls dance team my senior year. I graduated in the top 5% of my class with an associate’s degree from Albany Technical College.

After my acceptance into Alabama State University, I decided to sign up for The Hornet Tribune as a copy editor because I knew it would help me gain more knowledge in writing and communications, be a great addition to my resume, and help improve and develop my communications skills.

I would encourage students enrolled at Alabama State University and prospective students to join The Hornet Tribune because it will help them to gain valuable experiences that will be useful for their future career. It will help them strengthen their writing and communication skills, and improve their skills in their area of specialization which will help them to become more passionate about learning and being confident in their careers.

Hello, my name is Chioma Kalu, a junior at Alabama State University majoring in psychology, with a potential minor in marketing.

Before arriving at the university, I attended Queens College, a high school located in Lagos, Nigeria.
As the daughter of Festus and Beatrice Kalu, I was attracted to Alabama State University because of their HBCU legacy. I considered other schools, but I believe this was the best place for me. I hope to one day become the manager and/or owner of an event management company. While enrolled at Queens College, I was an honors student, who was also involved in the debate club and the drama club.

After arriving at Alabama State University, I decided to develop myself personally and professionally by working in various organizations. Firstly, I am a proud Presidential scholar in the Global Leadership Initiative (GLI) of the W.E.B. DuBois Honors program. Additionally, I currently serve on the activities and programs committee of the Student Government Association (SGA). I am also a Center for Financial Advancement Scholar, the Vice President of Psi Chi Alabama State Chapter, and a member of the Google Developers Student Club.

I decided to work with the Hornet Tribune as a Quality Control Editor because it will help me gain experience in news writing, whilst improving my writing and other communication skills in general, and it will also be a great addition to my resume.

I would definitely encourage students enrolled at Alabama State University to consider joining the Hornet Tribune staff in some capacity, as it will help them to grow in their professional careers, and develop their mindset and skills set for future goals. It will also help them broaden their knowledge which I believe will boost their confidence and motivation in whatever field they choose to pursue.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humor and the like).
