Organizers are pleased with first Connection Day-ish
February 18, 2023
On the morning of Feb. 18, Alabama State University students began a fun-filled weekend that included a party, the Honda Battle of the Bands and two basketball games, but the highlight for high school students who were visiting, was the “Connection Day-ish,” as tables and displays were set up along Harris Way for high school and college students to see what the university had to offer.
Students who participated in Connection Day-ish received a complimentary ticket to attend the Honda Battle of the Bands that followed. Universities that were represented at the event were Alabama State University, Savannah State University and Virginia State University.
Similar to Connection Day in the fall, there were also displays of various departments and organizations present. Some of the departments and organizations who participated were royal court, rehabilitation studies, curriculum and instruction, math and computer science, University College and communications.
Organizers of the event felt very good about the turnout and the quality.
“It was amazing to see the level of teamwork demonstrated to pull this event off in such little time and with zero hiccups,” said Melissa Stallworth, assistant director of recruitment at the university. “We engaged as many as 500 attendees during the Connection Day-ish college fair and had a double platform with the ASU Honda Battle of the Bands event occurring on the same day.”
When asked about the pros and cons of the event, Stallworth said, “The campus-wide support and added marketing efforts from the Honda Battle of the Bands undoubtedly was an added benefit,” she said. “The only con was the weather was quite brisk that morning!”
