Hello, my name is Jahzara Veasey and I am a first-year student at Alabama State University majoring in biomedical engineering. Before arriving at the university, I attended Blackman High School which is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.   While enrolled in Blackman High School, I was involved in the National Honor Society, Newspaper Staff, Science National Honor Soviety, Mu Alpha Theta, Book Club, The Heat  Dance Team, and JROTC.

As the daughter of Brenda Veasey, I was attracted to Alabama State University because of their biomedical engineering program. I looked at other colleges and universities, but I believe that Alabama State University is the best fit for me. I hope to one day become a lead researcher in tissue engineering.

After arriving at Alabama State University I decided to work with The Hornet Tribune as a photographer because I love the art of photography and growing a skill is a passion of mine. When I joined The Blackman Voice, my high school newspaper, I was originally a writer, however, we had to go and take our own photos for our events, and I found a love for photography.  I would definitely encourage any student who is enrolled at Alabama State University to join The Hornet Tribune staff in some capacity as it will help them to grow in their professional careers as well as their mindset towards their future goals. It will help them acquire more knowledge, improve their skills in the area of specialization which I believe will help them to become more motivated about learning and confident in what they are doing.  The Hornet Tribune allows me to grow my skills as a photographer through constructive criticism as well as a team who is always willing to help and work with each other. Not only do I get to take pictures at numerous school events, I also get to experience my school and capture images for future generations to look back on.

After graduation, I wish to continue my studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in a PhD program in order to further my research in tissue engineering. I want to go into tissue engineering because the medical field has always held an interest for me, but my main passion is learning about cells and tissues and how they work together to make organs. Tissue engineering is essentially the creation of specific organ tissue in order to make organs for people to use. It is a job that will constantly keep you learning and developing new ideas.

Hi, my name is Tionna Allen, a freshman at Alabama State University majoring in communications with the focus of PR.  Before arriving at Alabama State University, I attended Albany State University in Albany, Georgia and Jefferson Davis High in Montgomery Alabama.

As the daughter of Maggie Brand, an alumnus of Alabama State University, I knew that Alabama State was the best school for me being that I was often on campus as a child and grew up surrounded in HBCU culture.

While enrolled in Jefferson Davis High School I was involved in The Debate Team, JROTC, LGBTQ+ Club as well as an Archonette in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. youth group program. I lead my debate team to victory my junior year and was crowned Miss Zetarette 2020 and my senior year of high school.

After arriving at Alabama State University, I decided to work with The Hornet Tribune as a podcast host because I believe that it would help me better my social skills as well as help me become more articulate. I also knew that I would be allowed creative relief and enjoy speaking to many guests.

I would encourage any student who is enrolled at Alabama State University to join The Hornet Tribune staff in some capacity as it will help become better writers, talkers and overall improve professional skills. It will help them improve many skills one will need in a professional setting and develop connections to many people as well as networking.

Hello, my name is India Heath, a freshman Business Marketing  major from Marietta, Georgia..   Before arriving at Alabama State University, I attended South Cobb High School, where I participated in the Blue Eagle Marching Band, the Reading Bowl, and Ladies of Unity.

The daughter of Kelly Clark and Rodney Hendricks, I selected Alabama State University as they were an HBCU, not too far away from home, and they gave me a partial scholarship.  Since arriving, I became a member of The Hornet Tribune and I plan to join and participate in more clubs and organizations.  At Alabama State University, I plan to join various groups and organizations, develop a knowledge for business, experience and communicate with new people, and guinelly flourish into the person I want to be.

After I complete my studies at Alabama State University, I plan to move to New York and earn my graduate degree. I also strive to work at a major marketing firm to eventually start my own.

I chose to work with The Hornet Tribune because I always wanted to start a podcast. One of my main goals going into college was to do something I’ve always wanted, and when I saw that the tribune was looking for a podcast host, I immediately knew it was for me. I love having deep and meaningful conversations from people of all backgrounds, and The Hornet Tribune gives me the opportunity to follow my passion. Not only was I given the opportunity to start something new, The Hornet Tribune will also help me develop connections and to spread the voices of our wonderful hornet family.

Hello, my name is De’Austin Clayton a first-year communications major from Birmingham, Alabama.  I graduated from A.H. Parker Highschool with class of 2023 and participated in JROTC, and also did band for 2 years.

I am the son of Erica Clayton, and I have four siblings. I’m very good at talking to people, and good at photography and videography.

I came to Alabama State University because I wanted to be in a different environment and try out something new. I felt like it was more to the world than just Birmingham, and it wasn’t to far from home.

What really attracted me to The Hornets Tribune? I have this rare eye that not a lot of people have for photography and videography! I’m so familiar with equipment and events I feel as if I can be a big help to the team. I want to carry the legacy I had at home and bring it up here so we all can continue winning. I want something
