Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham. It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humor and the like).

Denise Ringo
University News Editor
dringo6412@myasu.alasu.edu
Hello, my name is Denise Ringo, a junior communications major born in Farmington Hills, Michigan before moving to Montgomery about a decade ago. Upon arriving in Montgomery, I attended Sidney Lanier High School.
While attending Sidney Lanier High School, I was a members of the school newspaper titled, The Blue & White, which helped prep me for my work with The Hornet Tribune. I was also part of the anime club and the environmental science club.
My mother is an alumna of the University of Alabama. I chose Alabama State University because I wanted to be more productive. It is in close proximity towhere I live and it helps me get out and do new things.
My first few semesters, I was not part of a student organization. It was not until I was advised to apply for work study, that I was pointed into the direction of The Hornet Tribune. They took me in almost immediately and I have been writing for the school paper ever since. Though it is at times challenging, it can also be fun and it really makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something.
I would encourage students to work with The Hornet Tribune because it helps you stay productive and hone your talents whether it be writing or photography. Also it keeps you updated on current events across campus. Its history of being the oldest black owned student paper is also extremely interesting. The Hornet Tribune is a paper worth putting effort into.
Ashonti Shaw
Assistant University News Editor
ashaw6864@myasu.alasu.edu
Hello, my name is Ashonti Shaw, a junior at Alabama State University majoring in communications. Before arriving at the university, I received my associate’s degree from Lake Michigan College and Countryside Academy High School which are both located in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
As the daughter of Tia and David Shaw, I was attracted to Alabama State University because I always wanted to attend a historically Black university and I love the diversity. After touring other schools, I knew Alabama State University was the best fit for me because it reminded me of home.
While enrolled in Countryside Academy High School I was a member of the National Honors Society, Cheerleading captain, Volleyball captain, and was the salutatorian of my class. I was also crowned first-runner up to Miss Benton Harbor during my senior year.
After arriving at Alabama State University, I decided to work with The Hornet Tribune as an Arts and Entertainment writer because it would help me gain more experience in the area of my concentration, develop my writing, and improve my communication skills. While being a part of the staff, I have seen my writing improve and I am now the Assistant University News Editor.
I would definitely encourage any student at to join The Hornet Tribune staff in any form because it will give them hands -on experience in roles that they will be doing in their professional career. It is a great opportunity to build relationships, make connections and become confident in the things they are doing.
Upon graduation I plan on going to graduate school while also getting experience to become a marketing communications specialist in the future.

Hello, my name is Phyllis Turnipseed, a sophomore majoring in communications from Birmingham, Alabama.
Before arriving at Alabama State University I attended A.H. Parker High School where I was a part of the early childhood development academy where you learn about infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. I shadowed preschool teachers and learned how to teach and work with children so that by the time I graduated I could work with children at places like Headstart. I also played volleyball and softball for two years at A.H. Parker High School.
My parents are JoNeen Turnipseed and Pearlie Daily. I am the youngest sibling of three children. I chose Alabama State University because one of my close friends was telling me how great the school was to him and the Alabama State University President’s Tour eventually came to A.H. Parker High School for students who were considering attending a college after graduation. During the visit, the university did a good job of making me want to enroll and test out the HBCU experience. They displayed their love for Alabama State University through dance, poetry, and the S.O.S. Leaders. They also had tables with different majors, opportunities, and benefits for students.
During my first year at the university, I joined two organizations, – the National Honor Society, and received honors programs twice and I volunteered at The Hornet Tribune in the fall. During the spring semester, I got the opportunity to join The Hornet Tribune as a college work-study student. I joined The Hornet Tribune because I knew Mr. Kenneth Dean, J.D., would teach me more about writing and help me become a better writer. The Hornet Tribune also gives me the opportunity to get a feel of the journalism profession so that when I step into the world I will be ready for that career.
I would recommend The Hornet Tribune to writers and photographers, videographers, and whoever is interested in learning about the basics of journalism and media aspect in the communications department because you are going to learn more about the field of journalism before you leave Alabama State University in four years. It is a great milestone.
Maya McCord
Hello, my name is Maya McCord, a junior at Alabama State University majoring in Communications with a concentration in Radio & Television. Before arriving at the university, I attended South Carolina State University for my freshman year of college and before that I attended Shades Valley High School which is located in Irondale, Alabama.
As the daughter of Edgar and Catryna McCord, I was attracted to Alabama State University because of their competitive and championship volleyball program and the many concentration options in the Communications program. I looked and communicated with other schools, but I was drawn closer to this institution. I hope to one day make an impact within communications media, but I have not solidified what position I want to continue in. I have jumped around from Investigative journalism to being a communications specialist and I am still figuring out what would be best for me.
While enrolled in Shades Valley High School I was involved in the National Honor Society, Société Honoraire de Français (French National Honor Society), National English Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Yearbook Staff, and I was an ambassador for University of Alabama’s Early College. I also participated in High school Indoor and club volleyball and served as captain for my high school team. When I was enrolled at South Carolina State University, I competed on the volleyball team, and I made the President’s List for Fall 2021 – Spring 2022.
After arriving at Alabama State University, I decided to work with The Hornet Tribune as a reporter/writer because it will help me gain more experience in research, writing, and effectively developing communication with different types of people. This position can also help add to my resume and showcase my improvement as a student-journalist.
I would definitely encourage any student who is enrolled at Alabama State University to join The Hornet Tribune staff in some capacity as it will help them to grow in their professional careers as well as their mindset towards their future goals. No matter whether they are a Psychology major, Business major, or just love to write, The Hornet Tribune will not only prepare them for the demands of corporate professional careers, but it pushes them to manage their time, helps them acquire knowledge on a hands-on professional collegiate level and helps them overall become more motivated and confident for their future careers and the rest of their lives.

Hello, my name is Tiffany Davis. I am an 18-year-old freshman communications major from Birmingham, Alabama.
I am the daughter of Tiana Davis and Tom Davis. I have three older brothers, Tom Davis, Jonathan Thornton (Kobe), and Trey Davis. I graduated from Clay Chalkville High School in 2023. In high school, I was a part of the marching band (four years), the media team (three years), and the president of my senior class. My clubs included the National Honor Society. I served as an ambassador for three years.
My heart chose Alabama State University because of the exciting experiences I witnessed on campus during the high school tours. I have genuinely gravitated toward their communications department. Outside of the department, I valued what the university represented with “sticking together as a community.” This motivated me to come here because I wanted my college experience to be somewhere I wouldn’t feel like just a number but an individual.
My career plan is to be a travel journalist, news anchor, and filmmaker. I chose to be a part of The Hornet Tribune because of my growing interest in writing. I have always been able to write fluently, but over the past few years of working on the video side of journalism, I wanted to be more diverse in my craft. I was eager to learn more about writing news stories, so why not join the official student newspaper of Alabama State University? That is how I joined The Hornet Tribune, where I now serve as a campus reporter/writer.

Hello, my name is Jessica Roberson, a freshman forensic biology major from Montgomery, Alabama. Before coming to Alabama State University, I attended Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School in Montgomery, Alabama.
As the daughter of Jesse and Latania Roberson, I chose Alabama State University because my father’s side of the family attended here, so it is good to continue the tradition and not to mention, I also received a scholarship.
While enrolled in Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School, I participated in the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, National History Honor Society, Technology Student Association, and Health Occupations Students of America.
Since arriving at Alabama State University, I became a member of The Hornet Tribune, as it is a great opportunity to get out information to the student body. This organization allows me to improve my social skills and connect with others on campus. Additionally, I believe that this experience will help me become a better writer and interviewer, which are skills that I value greatly. I encourage those who have some of the same goals to come join our family.
I enjoy reading new things related to all topics. In my free time I also watch Food Network, to get inspired for new recipes to try.
Once I graduate, my original plan is to be a forensic scientist. I eventually want to have my own my practice, so I would be my own boss or work for the government with my skills. If that plan does not work out I would probably own my own Funeral Home for those who cant afford the high cost others provide.

Hello, my name is Tahmea Sellers, I am a freshman Marketing Major. Before Alabama State, I attended Ramsay High School in Birmingham Alabama, I was in JROTC, Future medical club, Homecoming, Birmingham promise, joined a sorority by freshman and sophomore year, played soccer and Newspaper.
Daughter of Rashon Sellers and Shawn Radford. Since coming to Alabama State University, I have joined newspaper. I have only been here for a month exactly, but I plan on doing so much more for the rest of my time here! ASU was a great steppingstone for me first because It was an HBCU, but it’s an HBCU with a rich history and a great alumni support system.
When I complete my studies at Alabama state, I would like to go further my studies at graduate school then while in school start my career. I want to be one of two things, a marketing manager for a high-class company, designing and organizing events, making commercials and much more, or a news reporter, letting the world know what’s going on and breaking down information for people at home.
I decided to work for the newspaper because I have deep passion and love for writing, no matter what career I go into I will always have a love for writing. I also thought that this would be a good and fun experience for me as a first-year college student, getting up and getting involved. I didn’t intentionally choose to do news writing and reporting but Mr. Kenneth Dean helped guide me into that position. He makes news writing interesting and fun, and I can wait for the duration of the year to see what else I learn and experience.

Hello, my name is Takala Brown, a freshman at Alabama State University, majoring in psychology.

I chose to work with the Hornet Tribune because I wanted to do something similar to what I did my senior year in the yearbook . My top 5 goals before I came to ASU was to join an at least one club or work study, or organization . The Hornet Tribune really drawn my attention so I applied to become a photographer or opinion writer.

I chose Alabama State University because it chose me first. I was selected to be a Presidential Scholar thus allowing me to attend university with all my expenses covered. Not only was I offered the scholarship, but I was also offered the opportunity to live in a new area far away from home. I reckon it was the best choice because the people are nice, welcoming and accommodating.
Since arriving at Alabama State University, I became a member of the WEB DuBois Honors Program, The Hornet Tribune and lastly, the Google Developer Student Club.
The Hornet Tribune is the best place to help me learn as a writer. I have always had a way with words and I hope to ameliorate it through the Tribune. Moreover, I believe I have a lot to learn and that working for the Tribune will allow me to be more versatile with my writing.

Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humor and the like).

Hello, my name is Michaela Broadnax, a junior communications major from Montgomery, Alabama. Before arriving at Alabama State University, I attended Paulding County High School in Dallas, Georgia.
I am the daughter of Shardae Armstrong and Michael Jones. I chose to attend Alabama State University because I wanted to come back closer to home and be a part of The Mighty Marching Hornets, whom I’d admired. I also wanted to attend my mothers’ alma mater.
While attending Paulding County High School, I was a member of the yearbook staff and marching band.
After arriving at Alabama State, I chose to work with The Hornet Tribune as a reporter and writer to sharpen up my writing skills, build up my confidence, and gain experience working for a newspaper. I enjoy writing for the sports section of the newspaper.
I would recommend The Hornet Tribune to other students who enjoy writing, photographer, and videography. If they want to hone your craft and want to add on to your resume, The Hornet Tribune is a perfect opportunity to kickstart their professional career in the journalism world. Even if they are not a communications major you can still learn skills that can be used later on in life after they graduate college.

Hello, my name is Kamryn Williams, a junior majoring in mass communications with an emphasis in radio and television. I also plan to minor in physical education and coaching.
I attended Center Point High School in Birmingham Alabama.
The daughter of Teraca Williams and granddaughter of Robin Williams, Alabama State University was not always in the plans for me. I was always looked at to be this basketball player with a full ride, but I had other plans and goals. I chose the university for its history and being a top historically Black college and university. Also, I wanted to try something different. During my freshman year, I was a business major and after a year or two I discovered my love for communications. With my major, I hope to become one of the top paid African American women sports commentators in the world along with being a basketball or softball coach .
After arriving at Alabama State University I joined The Hornet Tribune to better myself and my writing. To be around people with most of them having the same major as me is pretty cool especially we all connect. Also it improves my communication skills as well as diction and it’s really something I can see me doing for the rest of my life. I wanted this job to prepare me for my majors profession after I graduate in the spring of May 2025. I love mass communications !
The Hornet Tribune is a great resource that is very underrated. We speak for our readers, our school, and much more. One of the most nicest people you’ll meet in The Hornet Tribune is Mr.Dean . He gave me warm welcomes and environment that I could work in . We all need a person like Dean on our sides and in our lives . Last and definitely not least I would definitely encourage students to attend HBCUs first and foremost , but the only illustrious HBCU is the Alabama State University.

Hello! I’m Kennedy Patton, a freshman majoring in Computer Information Systems, and minor in Computer Science. I’m an honors graduate from Prattville Christian Academy and the only African American student in my class to graduate with an Academic Scholarship. During my high school years I was in the National Honors Society, played on the golf team, and was involved outside of school activities. At my local church, know as Fresh Anointing House of Worship, I was in Blaze Youth Ministry and is currently still involved in Women’s International Ministry’s Jewels. I also used to be in a Montgomery leadership program under the Martin Luther King Jr Freedom Center, based in Oakland, California.
My parents are Latisha and Walter Lee Patton jr. My mother was an alumni at Alabama State University; making me a second generation student. When I was a little girl, my mother did college ministry at Bama State; she influenced the lives of many students. We also love going to the football games and watching the marching band’s halftime show. I shared the same nostalgia by going to games with my friends. On campus, so far, I have joined the Hornet Tribune as an Entertainment Reporter and the Creative Writing Club.
I wanted to join the Hornet Tribune because I enjoy writing and storytelling. It a part of the Hornet Tribune provide transferable skills for the workplace such as typing and writing skills. After college I plan to pursue a career in cybersecurity and inform my community about advancing technology. I wanted to encourage our community to gain skills about how to use technology as it becomes an increasingly vital part of our society.

Hello, my name is Kennedy Patton , a freshman on Full Academic Scholarship at Alabama State University majoring in Computer Information Systems and minoring in Computer Science. Before arriving at the university, I attended Prattville Christian Academy which is located in Prattville, Alabama.
As the daughter of Walter and Latisha Patton, I was attracted to Alabama State University because its the most supportive university. The staff and professors are always willing to help and ensure that every student will succeed.
During my High School years I was a part of the Nation Honors Society. As one of Congresswoman Terri Sewell’s students, I was involved in her cohort under the Martin Luther King Jr Freedom Center; based in Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s cohort in Oakland California. While in the Freedom Center, I met Fred Gray, after receiving his Presidential Medal of Freedom; I met former U.S. Representative and founder of the Rainbow Coalition, Rev. Jesse Jackson; and during the 2022 Civil Rights Pilgrimage I met the Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris. I’m currently involved with the Young Adult Leadership Council activating for those with learning disabilities. I’m also a part of Women in International Ministries’ Jewels, a mentoring and outreach program.
After arriving at Alabama State University I decided to work with The Hornet Tribune as a entertainment reporter because it will help me gain more experience in the area of business, adding to my résumé, improving and exercising my communications skills.
I would definitely encourage any student who is enrolled at Alabama State University to join The Hornet Tribune staff in some capacity as it will help them to grow in their professional careers as well as their mindset towards their future goals. It will help them acquire more knowledge, improve their skills in the area of specialization which I believe will help them to become more motivated about learning and confident in what they are doing.

Hello, my name is Kaila Young, a sophomore at Alabama State University majoring in Communications and minoring in Political Science.
Before arriving at the university, I attended Warren Easton Charter High School which is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, I was attracted to Alabama State University because of their internship programs and was intrigued by the Marching Hornets marching band and the Stingettes dance team. I looked at other schools, and even attended a small HBCU in my hometown of New Orleans, but I believe this one is the best fit for me.
I hope to one day become a Journalist and an Author. While enrolled in Warren Easton Charter High School I was involved in the Big Sister Little Sister National Organization, and I also was on the Beta Honor Roll.
After arriving at Alabama State University I decided to work with The Hornet Tribune as a Entertainment Reporter and Writer because it will help me gain more experience in the area of my specialization, add to my resume and help improve and develop my communications skills.
