Support the Future of The Hornet Tribune

Thank you for visiting asuhornettribune.com, home of Alabama State University official student-run newspaper, The Hornet Tribune. Whether you are an Alabama State University alum who bleeds black and gold, a proud Hornet parent, or simply enjoy reading about what’s happening on the campus, we appreciate your support.

You can take your support to another level by supporting our student journalists with a tax-deductible donation to The Hornet Tribune. We receive funding from Alabama State University to compensate students, but we depend con advertising and contributions from readers to maintain our award-winning print and online operations.

The Hornet Tribune and asuhornettribune.com are reported, edited and produced entirely by students. Your support will enhance our ability to continue producing quality reporting and commentary covering the Alabama State University campus, enhancing our websites, and enriching the experience of our student volunteers.

Why donate?

The Hornet Tribune is in the process of a reset—not only due to the struggles the COVID-19 pandemic posed and continues to pose—but also because of a need to continue evolving in a rapidly changing media landscape. Because The Hornet Tribune does not receive full funding from the University, it relies on donations to keep operations afloat. Donations empower The Hornet Tribune to provide weekly, print issues—a free and essential service to Alabama State University and the surrounding communities.

Donations will go directly towards financing The Hornet Tribune’s operations. Outside of general needs, these donations will support long-term projects, including the staff has access to the best newsgathering storytelling technology currently available; to fund student stipends that ensure that staff members with limited financial means are not prevented from working at The Hornet Tribune; an oral history project in which reporters will interview seasoned college professors; the creation of The Hornet Tribune’s mobile app; and the expansion of The Hornet Tribune’s Teach One-Train One program—a way for low income high school students to participate meaningfully in student journalism camp during the summer months.

As Alabama State University and the nation grapple with the ever-changing landscape of free speech and journalism, The Hornet Tribune will continue to seek out the truth and print it. This is not an easy task, nor a free one. Without your support, we cannot provide the journalism needed by our community.  Donate today,  and be part of The Hornet Tribune’s transition into the post-COVID digital age and help us continue being a place where free press and the truth thrive.

Ask any The Hornet Tribune alum — a group that includes many of America’s top journalists — and they’ll tell you they learned more in The Hornet Tribune’s newsroom than just about anyplace else.

To ensure future generations can say the same, we’ve launched The Future of The Hornet Tribune to:

  • To ensure that The Hornet Tribune and its staff have access to the best newsgathering and storytelling technology currently available;
  • To fund student stipends that ensure that staff members with limited financial means are not prevented from working at The Hornet Tribune;
  • To establish a sound financial footing that will allow The Hornet Tribune to remain focused on what it has always done best: training and inspiring young reporters, writers, editors, photographers and others looking for a career in the media.
