Baseball has Five Players Named to the Preseason All-American Team

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Perfect Game organization released its Preseason All-Conference Team last week and this list included five players from Alabama State.
Four of the five players are pitchers, and three of them were starters in the team’s shortened 2020 campaign. One of them, Jacknell Guzman, received Preseason Pitcher of the Year honors after logging 30.2 innings with a 2.05 earned run average (ERA), and allowing only seven earned runs. He also went 3-0 in his three complete games and four starts.
The other two weekend starters that were included on the team were Austin King and Breon Pooler. King finished with a 2-0 record in four starts and had a 3.32 ERA, while also only allowing eight earned runs this past season shortened because of COVID-19. After returning from an injury from the season before, Pooler finished with a 1-0 record with a save. He had a 0.52 ERA in the 17.1 innings that he pitched in, while also allowing eight earned runs. Together these three combined for 81 strikeouts through 12 games.
Reliever Britti Buckelew joined the trio after a shortened season where he had a record of 1-0 with one save in his five appearances. Buckelew logged 15.2 innings in which he recorded a 1.15 ERA and allowed only three runs, two of which were earned.
Trenton Jamison earned his spot on the team at third base by hitting .302 in 53 official at-bats. He had 16 hits of which included a pair of doubles, a triple, and two home runs. Jamison scored eight runs, while also driving in 13 more. He slugged .491 in 15 games.
These five and the rest of the Hornets begin their season on Feb. 19 in New Orleans, in the MLB Classic. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. CST
