Kendal Manns, Editor-in-Chief

Kendal Manns, a junior Radio/Television communications major, from Baltimore, Maryland. Before arriving at Alabama State University, he attended the Gillman School, where he participated in the Black Student Union, Poetry Club, and Lunches for the Homeless. Kendal saw the opportunity to work with The Hornet Tribune as a chance to learn the importance of news and its impact on the public and the importance of time management. His career aspirations are to become a sports broadcaster or content creator with the likes of The Bleacher Report, ESPN, etc.

Ariana Buck was always into art when she was younger. She would hang out with artists, go to a lot of museums, and have a lot of art in her room. She even had the opportunity to go to the Art Institute of Chicago after graduating high school, but chose to attend Alabama State University as this has been a family legacy.

Carlos Morrison, Ph.D., who has been employed as a faculty member since 2007, was recently awarded  the “Teachers on Teaching” award that is given by the National Communications Association.  He said that he did not enter teaching for the money, but to see young people grow.  Morrison was educated at University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Alabama and Howard University.

Alumna Rosephanye Dunn Powell, Ph.D., has been hailed as one of America’s premier composers of choral music. She has a diverse and impressive catalogue of works published by some of the nation’s leading publishers, including the Hal Leonard Corporation, the Fred Bock Music Company/Gentry Publications, Oxford University Press and Alliance Music Publications. Her compositions include sacred and secular works for mixed chorus, women’s chorus, men’s chorus, and children’s voices.  Her style of composition is beautiful melodies, strong rhythmic emphasis, and rich harmonies.
