PRAIRIE VIEW, Tx. – The Alabama State Lady Hornets faced off against the Prairie View Panthers in the second game of their Texas road trip. The Hornets made easy work of the Panthers in an 83-70 win.

Many players made their mark on this game, especially for ASU. Ayanna Emmanuel led the team with 23 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds. Other notable performances were Shmya Ward, who recorded another double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Jayla Crawford with 12 points and 5 assists and Tyesha Rudolph with 10 points, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Prairie View also had a couple of double-digit scorers with 20 points from Diana Rosenthal, 15 from TaMiracle Taylor, and 13 points from Kennedy Paul.

ASU came out of the gate pretty strong and connected on 60% of their shots while also going 5-for-7 from the three-point line in the first half. ASU also had a great team game, as many of their players off the bench stepped up as well. Prairie View, on the other hand, struggled to put the ball in the basket, which led to ASU taking an early lead and ending the first half with a 16 point lead over the Panthers.

The second half would be more of the same for the Hornets who continued to pour on points and make Prairie View work for everything on the defensive end. ASU pushed the tempo the whole game and made play after play; this not only gave them momentum but also prevented any chance the Panthers had of coming back. Even closer to the end of the game, when Prairie View did manage to score a few times in a row, they could not stop ASU from scoring. The team looked good in this competition overall and could be even better than they have shown so far.

The Lady Hornets swept their two Texas opponents and look ahead to returning to the Dunn-Oliver Acadome for a matchup against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on Feb. 6.
