MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State struggled from the floor in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest against Jackson State, falling 60-44 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in front of a nationally televised audience on ESPNU.

Kenny Strawbridge finished with a career-high 11 points and nine rebounds in his second career game, while Jordan Cousin and E.J. Clark each finished with eight points off the bench. Cousin finished the night with two of the three three-pointers made on the night for Alabama State, while also finishing with a career-high six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Jordan O’Neal finished with three blocks adding to his total of seven through two games, while DJ Heath added three steals.

Alabama State (0-2, 0-2 SWAC) finished the night shooting 27.7 (13-of-47) percent from the floor on the night, including 31.8 (7-of-22) percent from the floor in the second half. Although the Hornets struggled from the floor, they were able to hit 75.0 (15-of-20) percent from the free throw line.

Tristan Jarrett led Jackson State (1-5, 1-0 SWAC) with 25 points, while Cainan McClelland added 14 in the win for the Tigers. Jayveous McKinnis grabbed 13 rebounds for Jackson State who finished the night shooting just 39.2 (20-of-51) percent from the floor.

Alabama State returns to this weekend in conference play, traveling to UAPB for a Saturday night contest. The game is scheduled to tip at 5 pm in Pine Bluff (Ark.), with tip set for 5 pm.
