Montgomery police have arrested a third person in connection with the Oct. 4 downtown Montgomery mass shooting that two people dead and 12 injured.
Javorick Whiting, 19, has been charged with attempted murder, said Lt. Ernestina McGriff, spokeswoman for the Montgomery Police Department. Whiting was taken into custody on Thursday, Oct.16 by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility, she said.
Whiting could not be reached for comment and jail records do not show if he has an attorney.
In previous arrests, Dantavious McGhee, 19, was charged with one count of capital murder, nine counts of assault in the first degree and three counts of assault in the second degree, said McGriff. McGhee was taken into custody on Monday, Oct. 13, and placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility, she said.
On Oct. 10, MPD took a juvenile male into custody in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with one count of capital murder, nine counts of assault in the first degree, and three counts of assault in the second degree, McGriff said.
Police did not release the juvenile’s age. His name was not released because of his age.
The mass shooting resulted in the deaths of Shalanda Williams, 43, and Jeremiah Morris, 17, and left twelve others injured. Of the injured in the shooting, seven were under the age of 20, with the youngest being just 16 years old, police said.
