Is President Donald Trump’s post of an AI picture of himself as Jesus receiving necessary backlash, or is it being blown out of proportion?
On April 12, Trump posted on Truth Social an image of himself in white and red robes touching a man’s forehead with glowing hands. After receiving so much backlash, he deleted the post the next day.
This post caused backlash from the Christian community, including those who support Trump. In defense, Trump said that he thought it was him being a doctor or a Red Cross worker “making people better, and I do make people better.”
That picture does not look like a healthcare provider helping anyone. It looks more like a Christ-like person with Trump’s face, laying hands on someone to heal them. Questions that come to mind: why would a doctor be in clothes that were worn during the time Jesus was around, and why would a doctor have glowing hands? Not to mention, no medical equipment can be found in the picture to support his claims. To me, it truly shows that he thinks of himself as a higher power and believes that his supporters see him in the same manner.
I am confused why this is the thing causing outrage with his supporters and not the things that seem more significant matters. Like him not delivered on promises that were made during the campaign season, yet creating more problems for citizens. Prices are still up in grocery stores, and now gas, and not to mention starting wars and putting American soldiers in danger for no real reason.
One thing I have noticed about American citizens are huge supporters of double standards. How does one claim to follow Christian values, but treat other people as less than? They have a strong attachment to Christian values in situations that aid in strengthening their views, and not when it comes to other concerning matters like the unfair treatment of people with different skin colors.
To calm down the backlash with his Christian supporters, the white house is hosting an event with Trump to focus on getting back in their good graces. According to CNN, there will be an event called “America Reads The Bible” where Trump will read a Scripture via video that will be held on April 21. Seemingly, the reason behind this event happening is to show that he has Christian values and is seeking to gain the trust back of the feelings that he has hurt.
This move does not seem genuine at all, but rather just a strategy to save face and still have the support of those who will blindly follow behind him without questioning his actual intent. It is concerning how many of his supporters overly idolize him without taking the time to reflect on the things he says and his actions. One can question something without losing full support of that person, yet many seem to just accept that what he says goes. When you just go with what they say and do not form your own opinion about a situation, things tend to happen without people caring until it is too late.
It honestly feels like Trump can act and do anything he wants, and just throw out a quick apology, and his supporters will just forgive him without any real accountability. This really should not be surprising, as these actions have been occurring since his first presidency, and somehow, he found his way back into office.
